8 inches = a mountain

They finally cleared the road to work on Saturday. The drifts were terrible. What normally took us 3 minutes to get to work took us 20 because we had to go around the long way because the road was closed. The county plow is a huge caterpillar and has the ability to cut through deep drifts but it doesn't have the ability to scoop it up and place it high. The plow cut through enough for one truck to drive through, but normally its wide enough for two way traffic. This is a hill, so one lane doesn't work. So, they had a farmer around the corner who has a tractor (with a scoop so big I swear my car would fit in it) come and scoop the snow onto the bank.

This is what happens when you only get 8 inches of snow but the 30-40 mph winds blow non-stop for 30 hours. You get a small mountain. All of this snow was on the road. It had blown across it so smoothly, you would have never even known there was a road there to begin with. I'm SO ready for spring. Currently its -7 air temperature with -28 windchill. So, I'd love some warmer weather, except that can be bad too. It needs to warm gently, or this mountain of snow will turn the dirt roads into mud... which is harder to drive in than snow. Even if it could just reach freezing... man that would feel SO warm!
