Nonsense...

So, September 1st was fast approaching and Shaun decided to go and talk to the boss after we got home from vacation. He told them he needed to know what was going on with his job (last we heard we were out September 1st). The person they brought in to replace Shaun accepted the job so we figured we were out, like they said.

The boss told Shaun "we didn't realize what an asset you were until you were gone."

Excuse me?

He then said they had a "proposal" to allow him to keep his job through next June. The proposal is a bunch of horse dung. They are taking his overtime pay (equals about $10,000 yearly), his vacation (equals about $1,900 yearly) and his bonus (equals anywhere from $3-5,000 yearly). That is a HUGE hit!
But that's not all. They then said they will not guarantee he gets 40 hour weeks, and may only work him 2 days a week. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Didn't they just get done telling him he was an "asset"? Is this how they treat an asset? There is NO way we can survive on working 2 days a week... nobody could. This is what they do instead of laying him off. They want to avoid unemployment THAT bad. But, what they obviously don't know is that we can collect 'partial' unemployment if our hours or wages are cut to that extent.

Part of me wants to tell them to 'stick it', but that is what they want, and I refuse to give them that. The other part of me doesn't believe a word they are saying and that they are trying to scare us to drive us away. Afterall, this is the place that it's impossible not to get overtime. They've never 'not' been busy. Other people at work agree that the likelihood of them cutting him that extreme is very slim. But, if they do we will march on down (or up) to the unemployment office and do exactly what they don't want us to do.

I think the thing that makes me the most angry about the whole situation is that they are complete hypocrites. How do you give an employee great reviews for almost 5 years, call him 'reliable', 'dependable,' 'an asset', etc... and then treat them like this? It makes no sense to me whatsoever! Then they do things like what happened today. While at work, I was cleaning and Shaun was watering. One of the bosses (the nicer one) came through giving a tour to a couple friends. He was all peachy with me, then went out and showed them the area where Shaun was watering and said to Shaun, "hey Shaun, you're doing such a great job!"

*insert vomiting here*

They say things like that in front of people to make themselves look good, then turn around and stab you in the back. We are going to Tennessee this week for a job interview. I'm keeping my fingers (and maybe my toes) crossed. I've had enough of this nonsense.
