Storm Aftermath

A couple posts ago I wrote about the horrible storm that passed through here. Eldora (45 miles north) was hit hardest. Golf and tennis ball sized hail fell from the skies along with 80mph winds. We went to Eldora yesterday to hike. We go there often since it's one of the few places in Iowa with woods to hike in. We were shocked at the damage, even a week later. Crops were destroyed, houses in shambles, nothing looked the same.

Tree's were down everywhere. After living here almost 3 years I never knew this house was here until all the tree's below were blown down towards the river.
The whole town looked run down and closed. Not one building I saw was spared from broken windows. Some, lost all the windows except those on the south side.
Houses were a mess. Holes in siding, roofs, shutters, windows, etc... Painted houses had the previous colored revealed making them look like polka-dot paint jobs.Despite what people had been though, they maintained a sense of humor. These signs were everywhere.
Twice now we have lucked out not being in the storms path. Last year we were hiking in Eldora the very moment the F5 tornado struck Parkersburg only 20 miles from Eldora. This day we were planning on going up there to hike yet again, but decided against it because of the rainy forecast. I think we need to find a new place to hike!!
