Shot Down...

So we heard a big fat 'No' from the interview we went to in Michigan. That means we are back to square one. We still haven't heard from the one in Tennessee but it's been so long we are writing that one off too. The irritating thing with Michigan is that they said they really like him, but feel his skills would be better suited for production. Well duh... he's been in production forever, and is currently, but that is why he went back to school... to get out of production. They told him that they are creating another position (in production) and told him they encourage him to pursue that one. So now we don't know if we should just throw in the towel and accept that he may have to stay in production, or risk looking longer.

Another guy he talked to about a job here was in sales for horticultural products. Shaun would rock that job! He knows his products, flowers, etc... and he's a very friendly guy with companies. The man told Shaun his resume was very impressive, and that if had his own booked accounts he would be brought out for an interview immediately. Problem is, he has no books of accounts. These companies will only hire you if you bring accounts with you. Well, how the hell to you get accounts if nobody will give you the experience of getting them? It's SO frustrating.

It's been a depressing day realizing that all the hunting, money spent traveling to interviews, etc... was all for nothing. Thank heavens we went to the bar for pizza night to celebrate another employee's escape. He said he will be giving them a resignation letter and that its full of "good stuff". Ha ha. He claims he will be telling them about the things he disliked there. I sure hope he goes through with it because all the others (all 5) who have come and gone in last 5 years under a certain person there have said they'd do the same thing but then chickened out. Somebody has to start talking. He has a new job to go to so he's safe. Plus, he is very well liked by the bosses so they will listen to him. I have my letter already typed and ready to send as soon as I get the opportunity. Who knows, I may not wait until I leave because I'm getting tired of people not speaking up.

I got evidence (finally) of their improper practices today. I plan to put it in my back pocket for later use. A chemical was applied in the greenhouse while workers were present (including Shaun). A chemical that has a 12 hour re-entry time and one that requires a respirator for anyone in the area. This is WRONG morally and legally. A fellow worker drafted a nasty e-mail to the boss complaining that this certain person (same one that the 5 people have left under) is always spraying when he shouldn't. Shaun also sent one explaining that he shouldn't have to be exposed unnecessarily like that and felt it was wrong to expose other workers who had no idea they were even being exposed. Shaun came home at lunch nauseated. One of the bosses exclaimed, "well the fans were on so it's ok". Um... NO it's not ok. The chemical label is there for a reason. Obey the freaking law. Anyhow, if it's logged in the chemical application book I will photocopy it which records the time applied. It will clearly show it was during working hours. If its not in the log book, well that's against the states requirements as well so either way they lose. I'm tired of them getting away with stuff like this and thinking it's OK. This company cares nothing about their employee's health or safety. Disgusting.

Plus they are so cheap they will do anything to save a buck, not realizing it will come back to bite them. There is a mat we have to walk on that disinfects our shoes entering the greenhouse. The mat has been worn out for years and people trip on it all the time. One of the growers requested they get a new mat and they said 'no'. Well, someone tripped on Sunday, ended up in the emergency room with damage to their shoulder. Now, they have to get an MRI and possible surgery. The bosses are freaking out because it's now on their dime. Well gosh.... 50 dollars for a mat, or 5 thousand for a surgery.
